2) A Thousand Splendid Suns

Never having read The Kite Runner, I didn’t really have a desperate desire to read this book. It was another recommendation by Mum and her ‘bookclub’. She just left it on my desk, and after having it stare at me for at least a month I finally decided to pick it up. However, as usual, she was right. I read this book, which provides a solid medium between history and fiction, within two days of crammed lunch break readings and late nights. And I walked away from it feeling pretty lucky.

The use of history (shout out to Harisa) associated with Afghanistan and the Taliban adds a whole new layer to the intricate plot, something which your typical Twilight seems to lack. It makes the entire thing seem more real and consequently, to me, had a much greater impact on what I took away and realised from it. Which is one of the many purposes of books I guess. They’re supposed to entertain, educate and influence. Basically what I’m trying to say is that this novel ticks all three of these boxes, so read it.

1) Stop What You’re Doing and Read This

Persuasive title I know. My Mum actually brought this book for me as she disagrees with the excessive amount of time I spend on the computer. This isn’t to say that I don’t read (you’d kind of hope I do since I’m intending on doing English at Uni), she just doesn’t really like computers and the whole twittering facebooking age. The book doesn’t contain your typical intriguing plot, rather it’s a collection of essays. Personally I would hardly class them as essay’s. As an ex A Level student an essay to me doesn’t seem like one unless it contain’s at least three therefore’s. These come across as more autobiographical testimonies, for want of the right word, as to how reading has impacted their lives. I’ll shut up now and just tell you to listen to the title.

So from now on I’m going to frequently post a really good book which I think everyone should...

Baked the best Banana Bread yesterday. Banana anything is just brilliant actually. About a month ago I decided to get inventive (please note my cooking skills extend to toasted cheese sandwiches and spaghetti so this was a major step for me) and I made Banana Brownies. Success. Anyway here is the foolproof recipe for Banana Bread!

Four ripe bananas
1/3 cup melted butter
3/4 cup sugar
One egg
1 1/2 cups of plain flour
Alot of vanilla because vanilla is the best
Teaspoon of baking soda

Mash banana’s and mix it with the butter, before adding everything else in apart from the flour. Once everything is mixed together (probably without a mixer) add in the flour. Cook for one hour.

Having used the same £2 make up brush for as long as I can remember, I decided it was time to upgrade, seeing as I’m meant to be 18 and mature and all. Still being a pretty budget person though, I found one of these on ebay.

Needless to say I’m pretty excited about it turning up. My next problem is to find a nice make up bag. I’m in love with this one here but from folksy.com but I think it would be abit flower overload… Dilemmas of a girl.
